H&R Block To Hire More Than 5,000 Bilingual, Spanish-Speaking Tax Professionals

Enrollment Begins for the H&R Block Income Tax Course

Kansas City, MO–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–August 8, 2005–H&R Block, the nation’s leading tax services provider, has announced plans to hire more than 5,000 bilingual, Spanish-speaking tax professionals nationwide for the 2006 tax season in response to the company’s 10 percent growth in Latino clientele. With a population of more than 40 million, Hispanics are the nation’s largest minority group. According to the most recent U.S. Census Bureau estimates, the Hispanic population increased at a rate of 3.6 percent–more than three times the national average — over the last 12-month period that was measured.

H&R Block is committed to providing the best-in-class service to members of this community in their language of preference by increasing the number of bilingual, Spanish-speaking tax professionals who can work effectively with their clients to help them meet their tax obligations and obtain the maximum refund that they are entitled to by law. Openings for bilingual, Spanish-speaking tax professionals are available in major cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and New York as well as in many other markets throughout the country with significant and growing Latino communities.

“At H&R Block we recognize the need to continue training and hiring tax professionals that can serve the growing Hispanic population in their language of preference and at the standard of quality that our company is recognized for,” said Jennifer Breedlove, H&R Block Marketing Manager. “As we expand our presence in the Latino community, we have moved beyond the traditional large markets and now offer these services in smaller markets such as Phoenix, Atlanta and Sacramento.”

The H&R Block Income Tax Course is offered in both Spanish and English. The program is an 11-week income tax course designed for those without existing tax preparation training as well as those wanting to update their tax preparation skills. The program covers a scope of tax topics and is designed to help students learn how to help others by spotting overlooked deductions, being aware of recent tax law changes, and applying proven money-saving tax strategies.

“In addition to the entry-level courses that we offer, H&R Block’s tax professionals continually upgrade their skills through required training courses that help them stay up-to-speed on all changes and updates to the tax legislation,” added Breedlove. “Participating in the income tax course can be the first step for Hispanics who are interested in learning a marketable skill or potentially starting a new career with our company.**”

According to a recent Latino Labor Report by the Pew Hispanic Center, Hispanic employment increased by 6 percent in a 12-month period although wages have fallen for a second consecutive year due to employment in lower-skilled occupations. Tax preparation training services can offer the increasing Hispanic population potential employment options with competitive wages.

“H&R Block’s Tax Training School has provided me with valuable financial skills that have helped strengthen both my personal and professional life,” said Lauren Taylor, H&R Block senior tax advisor. “The higher-level tax courses are great tools for continuing my education and advancing my professional development.”

Beginning September 12, 2005, H&R Block’s Income Tax Course will offer classes in Spanish and English as well as bilingual classes at many H&R Block offices throughout the country. The courses are taught by experienced H&R Block professionals, many with more than a decade of expertise in serving tax clients.
