PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–September 4, 2003–IKEA, the leading home furnishings retailer, today officially broke ground for its new store opening next Summer in New Haven, CT, to be built on 20-acres at the intersection of the I-95 and I-91 interchange.
The 306,000 square foot store will be built at-grade with approximately 1200 parking spaces at-grade on a site plan designed around preserving the existing Marcel Breuer office building, most recently used as the offices of Pirelli Tires. Besides jobs created during construction, more than 400 coworkers will join the IKEA family when the new store opens.
“We know there are many IKEA customers in Connecticut so we are thrilled to bring them their own IKEA store at this perfect location,” explained Pat Smith, IKEA real estate manager. “The City of New Haven has made us feel truly welcome. We look forward to being active partners in the community.”
