Covina, CA–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–April 28, 2004–IKEA North America, the leading home furnishings retailer, reaches out to the Latino community with a special event at IKEA Covina celebrating Cinco de Mayo and Mother’s Day. The event, Cinco de Mayo Para Mamá, will feature a free outdoor concert with musical performances by international music star Ana Bárbara, Latin Billboard chart toppers, Patrulla 81 and top Mexican music talent, Jorge Luis Cabrera. The concert will take place on Saturday, May 8th with in-store festivities on Saturday and Sunday, May 9th, featuring salsa dancers, a Mariachi band, decorating workshops, kids arts and crafts, and store promotional giveaways. The event will take place at the Covina store, 848 South Barranca Avenue, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
“In May we’ll be celebrating our one-year anniversary here in Covina, and we wanted to do something very special for the community,” explained Lynda Mee, IKEA Covina store manager. “We know that a large portion of our community is Latino, so we have created a wonderful event that celebrates the Latino culture and provides entertainment the entire community can enjoy.”
IKEA Covina is producing the event in partnership with leading Spanish-language radio station, KLAX-FM 97.9 of the Spanish Broadcasting System network. The four-hour outdoor music concert will feature the hot sounds of top Latin music artists as well as a special appearance by radio personalities, La Tropa Loca.
In-store festivities include: decorating workshops in Spanish and English in the main showroom; kids arts and crafts in the kids department; a “Sofa for Mom” sweepstakes; random purchases given away for free every hour; two patio set giveaways; Mexican menu selections at the IKEA Restaurant; and a free Mother’s Day Brunch for moms on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon with live music. Special products for mom will also be on promotion throughout the store.
In keeping with IKEA’s vision of giving back to the community and providing a better everyday life for the many, IKEA Covina will make a contribution to YWCA-WINGS, a Covina non-profit organization helping women in need. For every free brunch served, IKEA Covina will donate the value of the meal to WINGS.
