NEW YORK–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)–Nov. 18, 2002–iN DEMAND, the nation’s leading Video-On-Demand and Pay-Per-View provider, has announced the launch of Spanish-language VOD programming, effective immediately.
There are 35 million people of Hispanic origin in the US, many of whom prefer to watch television programming in their native language, according to the latest US Census. The addition of Spanish-language movies and programming on VOD will increase options for digital cable customers, who now have access to hundreds of movies and entertainment programming already available to them on demand, and may also attract new users to the category.
iN DEMAND will initially distribute five hours of Spanish-language movies, including “Scorpion King,” “Tinta Roja,” and “Cha Cha Cha” to Time Warner Cable systems in Los Angeles and San Antonio, with projected distribution to additional systems in the coming months. “Scorpion King” will be a dubbed version, while the other two titles are original Spanish-language films with English subtitles. A rare film out of Peru, “Tinta Roja” is the story of Alfonso, an aspiring novelist whose morals are corrupted by his internship at a tabloid newspaper, and “Cha Cha Cha,” from Argentina, is a romantic comedy directed by Antonio del Real.
“Spanish-language television remains an important vehicle for reaching the Hispanic consumer with three quarters (75%) of urban Hispanic respondents saying it is important for their households to have Spanish-language channels,” according to an annual survey by the Surveys Unlimited division of Horowitz Associates.
iN DEMAND’s new VOD programming will accompany the current new releases and library titles from Hollywood’s top studios, including Artisan Entertainment, DreamWorks, MGM, New Line, Sony Columbia Tri Star, Twentieth Century Fox, Universal and Warner Bros.
Those studio agreements provide iN DEMAND with access to over 75 percent of the new films released by the major studios, also reinforcing the company’s position as the industry’s leading aggregator of VOD content. In addition to new releases, iN DEMAND’s rights also provide access to library titles as well.
