CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct. 21 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Two leaders in electronic services for the healthcare industry have formed a partnership that will make electronic prescription services available to physicians and other healthcare providers in Puerto Rico, resulting in increased efficiency and enhanced quality.

RxNT, the leader in electronic prescription systems (e-prescribing), will offer its prescription management solution through a web-based portal provided by Inmediata, the leader in supporting real-time interfaces between healthcare providers and payers in Puerto Rico.

“This partnership draws on the strengths of both companies,” said Severiano Lopez-Marrero, President of Inmediata Health Group. “RxNT offers the industry’s most advanced e-prescribing system and our company is the leader in supporting healthcare providers and payers who serve thousands of families in Puerto Rico. It is a win-win for everyone.”

RxNT services enable healthcare providers to generate and submit electronic prescriptions through secure connectivity to retail and mail order pharmacies. In addition, RxNT software provides healthcare providers with online access to patient medication histories, patient health plan formularies and drug and allergy interactions.

“E-prescribing is presently one of the best ways of increasing efficiency and enhancing the quality of healthcare,” said Randy Boldyga, RxNT president and CEO. “By working through the established network that Inmediata has built in Puerto Rico, we anticipate rapid development and believe provider implementations will commence within 90 days.”

The use of electronic prescriptions is expected to accelerate even more in coming years because of changes in the Medicare program. Over the next five years, physicians who use e-prescribing for Medicare patients will receive bonuses of 2% in 2009 and 2010, 1% for the next 2 years and 0.5% in 2013. Physicians not using e-prescriptions for Medicare patients by 2012 could be penalized with a fee reduction of 1% in the first year, 1.5% in 2013 and 2% during subsequent years.
