MIAMI—(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–Dec. 11, 2003–Though barely two years old, Jackson Memorial Foundation’s International Kids Fund (IKF) at Holtz Children’s Hospital has captured the attention of one of the world’s largest Spanish-language sports television companies. Fox Pan American Sports LLC has selected IKF as the official charity for its newly created annual sports award show, “Premios Fox Sports,” to be held in Miami on Dec. 17.
Fox Sports en Español will televise the awards ceremony across the United States on Dec. 21 at 10 p.m. EST, while Fox Sports Latin America will air the proceedings throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
The inaugural “Premios Fox Sports” event will honor top U.S. Hispanic and Latin American athletes spanning a wide spectrum of sports, including soccer, baseball, golf, tennis and motor sports. A portion of the proceeds will benefit IKF and help provide life-saving medical care for critically ill children from Latin America and the Caribbean.
“This exclusive televised event is expected to reach 17 million households, giving IKF national and international visibility,” says Rolando D. Rodriguez, Jackson Memorial Foundation president and CEO. “This is a boost that can help us more quickly reach our fundraising goals in support of our mission to become a major international charity helping critically ill children from all over the world.”
The fundraising goal for IKF this year is US $5 million. The money flows directly to medical care for critically ill children. Every dollar raised helps save a young life.
The nonprofit IKF works in partnership with Holtz Children’s Hospital of the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center, one of the top-rated pediatric hospitals in the nation.
Being located in Miami, “the gateway to the Americas,” positions IKF as the logical place for families from Central and South America to come seeking help when they are desperate and have no place else to go. To date, more than 100 children from Latin America and the Caribbean have received critical surgery, life-saving treatments and essential medical care. In all cases, the procedures or care needed is not available in the child’s country of origin.
“We are proud to be associated with the magnificent work of the International Kids Fund,” says David Sternberg, senior vice president and general manager of Fox Sports en Español. “The inaugural ‘Premios Fox Sports’ is the perfect platform to raise public awareness and support for IKF’s activities throughout the Americas.”
Many multinational corporate supporters will host tables during the awards ceremony, including Juan N. Cento, president of FedEx, Latin America and the Caribbean and chairman of the IKF Board of Directors.
In addition to its corporate sponsors, IKF has attracted a star-studded roster of international supporters, including Mario Kreutzberger (a.k.a. Don Francisco), Ana Maria Canseco, Chayanne, Gloria Estefan, Fernando Fiore, Lucia Mendez, Barbara Palacios and Alex Rodriguez. Ms. Mendez and Ms. Palacios are both slated to present an award during the ceremony, while Mr. Fiore will attend as IKF’s guest.
