JCPenney Expands Presence at New York’s Queens Center; Grand Opening Celebration Begins March 26


Plano, TX–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)–March 11, 2004–JCPenney is putting the finishing touches on its new, larger Queens Center store in preparation for the grand opening celebration beginning on March 26. The new store, which boasts 50 percent more space than the current location, offers Elmhurst customers even more ways to experience JCPenney’s great brands and value prices including the addition of furniture and housewares.

The three-level JCPenney store, covering 200,000 square feet, will anchor the southeast corner of the newly renovated shopping center at 94th Street and 59th Avenue. Besides an expanded selection of apparel and home furnishings, shoppers will enjoy the convenience of wider aisles, improved lighting and accessible customer service centers.

“We built this store from the customer’s point of view,” said store manager Jeffrey Owen. “We’ve had tremendous support from our customers here, and now we’re bringing them more of the outstanding fashion, quality and value that JCPenney is known for. We’re inviting everyone to come and celebrate with us.”

Grand Opening Activities

The grand opening celebration begins with a ribbon-cutting on Friday, March 26 at 10 a. m. Customers can register for great prizes, including a 2004 Mini Cooper, a 42-inch plasma TV and a 2004 Vespa scooter. In addition, five lucky shoppers will win $1,000 gift cards to be used toward any JCPenney purchase. Other activities include in-store giveaways, product demonstrations and special discounts for the entire family.

The celebration continues into April with special appearances throughout the store, including:

Store Highlights

Reinforcing the company’s “It’s All Inside” message, the store will have several new features to enhance the customers’ shopping experience, including:

— Expanded home department, offering a larger selection of bedding and bath accessories – plus all new departments for furniture, housewares and home accessories, including lamps, pictures and clocks.

— Enhanced full-service salon, featuring 25 stations for professional hair styling services, private rooms for waxing and pedicures, manicures, skin care and salon-quality products.

— Advanced portrait studio, employing state-of-the art photo technology to deliver more choices and creative solutions for the entire family.

In addition, the store will have a full-service Optical department for prescription eyeglass and contact lens needs, custom decorating services and a catalog/Internet service center where customers can place orders or pick up catalog and Internet purchases.

Reflecting the diversity of the surrounding community, the staff represents more than 25 distinct ethnicities. The new store will add approximately 120 positions. The original Elmhurst store opened in 1990 and JCPenney has had stores in the New York City area since 1957.

JCPenney at Queens Center will operate from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
