From the same company that brought consumers flan and no-bake cheesecake, Royal presents a new selection of pudding and gelatin dessert flavors just in time for holiday gatherings. This new line has bilingual packaging and larger than average serving sizes that caters directly to the needs of Hispanic families. They can be found in the dessert sections of Wal-Mart and HEB retail locations nationwide.
New Royal puddings are available in five flavors, including Flan con Caramelo (Caramel Custard with Sauce), Flan Chocolate (Chocolate Flavored Custard), Horchata (Rice Milk), Coco (Coconut) and Maíz (Corn Pudding).
New additions to the Royal(R) gelatin portfolio include Manzana (Apple), Uva (Grape), Mango, Tutti Frutti, Jamaica (Hibiscus), Piña (Pineapple), Limón (Lemon) and Tamarindo (Tamarind).

Jel Sert Recognizes Growing Demand for Hispanic-Inspired Flavors
Jel Sert’s renewed interest in the Hispanic market comes after its December 2000 acquisition of several Nabisco Foods brands, including the Mexico-based Royal(R) brand. Each new product flavor was designed based on the growing popularity of Mexican, Caribbean and Central/South American desserts.
“The Royal brand already holds a lot of nostalgia for immigrants from Mexico and other Latin American countries,” said Marketing Director Santosh Padki. “We’re hoping to provide a ‘piece of home’ for Hispanic immigrants, while encouraging the general market to incorporate these flavors into their day-to-day fare.”

Royal(R) Flan con Caramelo y Almendras
1 Large Box Royal Flan con Caramelo
4 cups whole milk
2/3 cup slivered almonds
8 slices of white bread
8 glass custard cups
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake almonds in a metal pan for about 10 minutes until golden brown. Set aside. Lightly toast bread, cut into spoon-size pieces and set aside. Arrange bread pieces to cover bottom of each dish. Sprinkle approximately 2 teaspoons almonds over bread. Repeat until all bread and almonds are used. Set aside. Heat Royal Flan mix and milk over medium heat until mixture comes to a full boil. Add hot mixture to each cup until nearly full. With a spoon, press down any remaining dry bread pieces to moisten all the bread. Garnish each dish with remaining almonds. Microwave two cups at a time for approximately 60 seconds (time may vary according to size and wattage of microwave). Pudding should rise slightly when done. Repeat until all eight cups are cooked. Set aside for 20 minutes before serving. Garnish with warm caramel sauce, if desired. Pudding is best when served warm.
