PRINCETON, New Jersey, July 11, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Dr. Kadriye Ercikan has been appointed Vice President of Statistical Analysis, Data Analysis, and Psychometric Research (SADAPR) within Educational Testing Service’s Research & Development Division. Ercikan is currently a Professor of Measurement, Evaluation and Research Methods in the Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia.

As Vice President of SADAPR, Ercikan will be responsible for data analysis and psychometric support of ETS’s major testing products and contracts, as well as for foundational and applied statistical psychometric research. She will provide strategic, tactical and financial oversight of all functional areas within the SADAPR area of the division. She will report to R&D Senior Vice President Ida Lawrence.

“We are extremely pleased that Dr. Ercikan is coming to ETS R&D,” said ETS President and CEO Walt MacDonald. “Her demonstrated thought leadership in several critical areas of educational measurement will be key in helping us meet our mission goals.”

Ercikan has been a faculty member at UBC since 1998. While at UBC, her research addressed issues including validation of score meaning using examinee response processes, assessment of collaborative problem solving, designing and validating assessments of complex thinking, assessment of linguistic minorities, and fairness and validity issues in cross-cultural and international assessments.

From 1991 to 1998, she was a Senior Research Scientist and a manager at CTB/McGraw Hill (CTB), where she provided psychometric leadership for research projects, statistical systems, and all aspects of assessments including assessment design, data analysis, and interpretation of assessment results.

Her work has resulted in six books, four special issues of refereed journals and 83 other publications. One book, Validating Score Meaning in the Next Generation of Assessments, co-edited with James Pellegrino, was selected for publication as part of the National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME) book series. Another coedited volume with Wolff-Michael Roth, Generalizing from Educational Research, was awarded the AERA Division D Significant Contributions to Measurement and Research Methodology recognition.

Dr. Ercikan’s scholarly leadership has been recognized by her induction into the International Academy of Education as a Fellow and by a recent nomination to the Royal Society of Canada.

She currently serves as Vice President for AERA Division D, has served as an elected member of the Board of Directors of the National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME), and as conference organizer and program chair for both the Psychometric Society and the 2016 10th conference of the International Test Commission (ITC).

“I am very pleased that a measurement thought leader with Kadriye’s broad interests and expertise is joining the senior leadership team of R&D,” added Lawrence. “As we work to create a next generation of assessments, with richer information to help advance teaching and learning, Kadriye’s experience will be invaluable.”

Dr. Ercikan will join ETS on October 1, 2016.
