–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – CONTEXTO LATINO)–According to trade magazine Aftermarket Business, the latest U.S. Census data suggests that Hispanics account for 8.2 percent of new vehicle registrations. This equates to a 59 percent growth in the number of vehicles acquired by the Hispanic population in a five-year timeframe, growing from 540,000 to almost 860,000. Additionally, about 35 percent said that they buy a new vehicle every two to three years.
“Our vehicles are often the second most expensive purchase we make yet we expect them to run like new forever,” says Tony Pedregon, NHRA Nitro Funny Car Driver. “The great news is we can help increase vehicle life by following some simple maintenance steps.”
Pedregon suggests starting with a basic tune up that includes spark plug replacement, regular oil and filter changes and cooling system maintenance.
While motor oil is a vehicle’s lifeblood, it is the filter’s job to help prevent harmful particles and contaminants from entering the engine.
The type of filter you use should depend on the driving you do, adds Pedregon. The FRAM brand offers quality filter products that meet the varying demands of today’s vehicles – including filters for older vehicles, trucks and SUVs. For instance, the FRAM(R) Tough Guard(R) oil filter utilizes a combination of synthetic glass and cellulose media, great for motorists who operate in harsh driving conditions.
Some applications offer a screen-over bypass that provides backup filtration during cold start-ups and added protection against larger particles of dirt.
Pedregon recommends oil and filter changes every 3,000 miles to ensure optimal performance.
When it comes to changing your spark plugs, Pedregon reminds us that though they are small, they play a critical role in the engine. “Without a spark, the car won’t start. Plus old, worn or dirty spark plugs can reduce fuel economy significantly.”
A spark plug’s role is to deliver a high-voltage spark with split-second timing, thousands of times a minute under hostile operating conditions. When choosing spark plugs, Pedregon suggests buying plugs that provide better overall ignitability and durability. For instance, the .6mm finewire design of the Iridium enhanced Autolite XP Xtreme Performance(R) spark plug. It is just one of several plugs from the Autolite brand.
Pedregon also reminds motorists to flush the cooling system regularly. Many people believe that their cooling system never needs to be serviced, or it just needs a top off every now and again. But the cooling system is a vital part of the engine and requires maintenance for proper vehicle function
Pedregon suggests using an antifreeze/coolant that’s designed for all makes and models. Prestone(R) Extended Life Antifreeze/Coolant offers up to five years or 150,000 miles of protection when it is added to any extended life antifreeze/coolant.
“Maintaining your vehicle with premium products helps it perform better, last longer, and you’ll likely avoid expensive repairs caused by neglect,” said Pedregon. For more car care tips, consumers should log on to http://www.honeywellcpg.com.
