WASHINGTON, DC–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)—September 15, 2003–Laughter will echo through the nation’s capitol when rising Latino comedians take stage at the Warner Theatre for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s (CHCI) 2nd Annual Reyes of Comedy Night. The event takes place Tuesday, Sept. 23 and is being co-produced by SiTV, an English-language, Latino-themed network due to launch later this year. Proceeds from the event will help Hispanic youth achieve college education through CHCI’s Scholarship Awards Program.
Comedian and actress, Jackie Guerra, the first Latina to star in her own network sitcom, WB’s First Time Out, will emcee. Guerra is set to host Style Network’sYou’re Invited, which airs this fall and will do for the party-planning-challenged what Fashion Emergency does for fashion victims.
Bringing down the house will be comedians: Gabriel Iglesias, who has performed on numerous television shows including NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, BET’s Comic View, and ABC’s Good Morning America; Rudy Moreno, an actor/comedian with over 30 television appearances to his credit including E.R. and Everybody Loves Raymond; Debi Gutierrez, whose side-splitting stories about “mommyhood” have made her one of the Latino communities fastest rising stand-up comics; and Bill Santiago, who one reviewer described as a comedian “mixing the verbal dexterity of George Carlin, the amorous self-deprecation of Woody Allen and the physical presence of Michael Richard’s Kramer on Seinfeld.”
CHCI, a non-profit and non-partisan educational 501(c)(3) organization, provides leadership development programs and educational services for Hispanic college and postgraduate students. The CHCI board of directors is comprised of Hispanic Members of the U.S. Congress, non-profit leaders, and corporate executives.
