Latin Chamber of Commerce to Honor Park Place with ‘Award of Distinction’; Award Recognizes Casino Company’s Support of the Latin Community


LAS VEGAS–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)–Sept. 10, 2003–The Latin Chamber of Commerce of Nevada announced today it will present its “Corporate Award of Distinction” to Park Place Entertainment Corporation (NYSE:PPE), one of the world’s leading gaming companies.

Park Place was selected for the honor in recognition of its commitment to “give back to the communities in which its casino resorts are located, and its demonstrated desire to improve the quality of life for Hispanics in Nevada,” said Otto Merida, executive director of the Latin Chamber.

Park Place will receive the award at the Latin Chamber’s 2003 Community Awards Dinner in Las Vegas on September 12, 2003.

“Park Place has been a leader in its involvement with the Latin Chamber and its contributions to the Hispanic community. This award is well deserved,” Merida added.

In the past year, Park Place and the Park Place Foundation have provided funding and support in excess of $130,000 to organizations providing services to the Hispanic community.

The Park Place Foundation awarded a $67,000 grant to the Nevada Association of Latin Americans (NALA), the state’s oldest Hispanic Services agency. NALA provides services and advocacy in areas from affordable child care and senior services to emergency rental assistance and legal referrals. Park Place’s contribution, in support of NALA’s job training program, was the largest private grant in the organization’s history.

Park Place also supported the important efforts of the Immigrant Workers Citizenship Project through a $25,000 contribution. The Citizenship Project has directly helped hundreds of people become U.S. citizens.

In addition to these grants, Park Place gave $35,000 to the Latin Chamber of Commerce for its building fund, scholarships, and youth programs. Park Place was also the first Gold Sponsor of the Chamber’s newest and highly successful community education and job fair expo, La Oportunidad EXPO.
