Univision Radio’s Salsa 98.3 in Miami is First Station in North America to Dedicate Broadcast Studio to the Late Celia Cruz

Miami, FL–(HIISPANIC PR WIRE)–July 16, 2004–Univision Radio’s Miami station WRTO Salsa 98.3 will be the first radio station in North America to dedicate a broadcast studio in honor of the Queen of Salsa, the late Celia Cruz. An 18 by 24 inch bronze plaque bearing Celia’s bas-relief portrait, a Cuban flag and the inscription in Spanish: “Celia Cruz Studio, ‘The World’s Guarachera’, for spreading Latin music throughout the world and for being our Queen of Salsa”, will be unveiled at a special presentation on Thursday, July 22, 2004 at 11:00AM. The event will take place in the Historic Ballroom at the Douglas Entrance located adjacent to the Univision Radio studios at 800 Douglas Road in Coral Gables, Florida.

Pedro Knight, Cruz’s widow and Omer Pardillo, president and co-founder of the Celia Cruz Foundation will join Claudia Puig, Senior Vice President and Southeastern Regional Manager of Univision Radio.

“It is a great honor for us to dedicate the Salsa 98.3 studio to our beloved Celia Cruz. With this, we wish to honor her memory and pay tribute to her contributions to music and humanity”, said Ms. Puig.

As part of this posthumous tribute to Celia Cruz, next year, Salsa 98.3 will donate a portion of the proceeds of the stations signature concert “Dia de la Salsa” to the Celia Cruz Foundation. Founded by Celia Cruz, the Celia Cruz Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for under-privileged students wishing to study music. It also contributes to cancer research and organizations that provide assistance to cancer patients.
