Miss Universe(R) 2003 Amelia Vega to Visit The English High School in Boston to Help Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

As part of Verizon’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Celebrity Guest Miss Universe 2003 Amelia Vega will participate in a special Achieve Your Dreams, Preserve Your Heritage (Logra Tus Sueños…Conserva Tu Herencia) award ceremony to present computers, educational equipment and books to underserved public schools. Invited guests include students, parents, local school officials and Verizon representatives. Ms. Vega, a native of the Dominican Republic, will also read to the students and share her personal success story. The participating schools receiving the donation in Boston include: The English High School, Louis Agassiz Elementary and Umana/Barnes Middle School.

WHAT:

For the second year in a row, “Verizon’s Achieve Your Dreams, Preserve Your Heritage” (Logra Tus Sueños…Conserva Tu Herencia) Hispanic community outreach initiative recognizes Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15), and demonstrates Verizon’s ongoing commitment to the communities it serves. In 2004, Verizon will present a total of 120 new desktop computers, various educational software, 36 new printers, and 16,000 books (which include recommended reading Scholastic books and bilingual dictionaries) to 12 predominantly Hispanic schools located in New York City, New Jersey, Boston, and Washington, D.C.
