La Opinion’s weekly entertainment magazine, ‘La Vibra,’ will now be carried for first time outside LA

Los Angeles, CA–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–April 16, 2004–La Vibra (“The Vibe”), the weekly Spanish language entertainment magazine published by La Opinión in Los Angeles, is hitting the road. La Vibra will now also provide timely information on the latest movie, music and cultural trends to readers of the Houston Chronicle.

The cutting edge magazine was launched by La Opinión, the country’s largest Spanish language daily newspaper, in the summer of 2000, in what was then a barren market for this kind of hip entertainment publication catering to young Hispanics in Southern California.

With a distribution that has grown to 150,000 throughout Southern California, beginning April 23, La Vibra will have 100,000 distributions in Houston via the partnership with the Houston Chronicle. The combined circulation will be 250,000 in two of the country’s largest Hispanic markets.

“La Vibra resonates with bilingual, bicultural young people in Los Angeles who look to us for the hottest trends in music, movies, fashion, and art, which is why La Vibra will also resonate with the young Latinos in Houston,” said Monica Lozano, La Opinión’s President and Chief Operating Officer. “This new expansion into the Houston market will allow us to get even closer to one of the most appealing and vibrant segments of the consumer market: young Hispanics.”

“I am extremely proud that the strong editorial content and quality of our La Vibra staff will now be enjoyed by Latinos throughout the Southern California and greater Houston markets.

Jack Sweeney, Publisher and President of the Houston Chronicle said, “We’re very excited about our new partnership with La Opinión in launching the Houston edition of La Vibra. Combining the extensive experience of La Opinión with local content, marketing and the distribution expertise of the Houston Chronicle provides the perfect opportunity to reach young, dynamic Houston Hispanics. Our unique distribution of 100,000 copies of La Vibra every Friday in Houston area zip codes of 65 percent plus Hispanic households will consist of 50,000 direct door delivery to non-subscribers and 50,000 inserted in the Chronicle’s home delivered and single copy paid circulation in these zip codes as well as free distribution in specially designed racks.”

In Southern California, La Vibra is published every Thursday and inserted into copies of La Opinión and available at most major music retailers throughout Southern California, including Tower Records, Ritmo Latino, and Wherehouse/Tu Musica. Directed at the younger urban Latino, every issue of La Vibra covers music, movie and TV personalities, museums and art openings and offers a guide to some of the best clubs.

Regular advertisers in La Vibra include Heineken, Miller Genuine Draft, Universal Pictures, Pepsi, AT&T wireless, Disney and many others.
