WASHINGTON, DC–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–April 25, 2003–Maria Rodriguez, president and owner of Vanguard Communications, will be awarded HISPANIC Magazine’s Young Entrepreneur Award on Tuesday, April 29, 2003. The award will be presented at the 12th Annual Latina Excellence Awards in New York City and is one of several prestigious accolades that Rodriguez and Vanguard Communications have earned in the past year.
“HISPANIC Magazine’s awards are more than just a pat on the back for running a successful firm,” said Rodriguez. “They also provide a much-needed avenue to show Hispanics and Latinos that they too can overcome obstacles in their lives.”
Rodriguez is being recognized by HISPANIC Magazine because of her significant contribution to the fields of communications and public relations and her positive impact on the Hispanic community. Over the past 16 years, Vanguard Communications has grown from two people to a firm of 30 with a portfolio of clients that include agencies within U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Farm Aid, Federal Trade Commission and others. In addition to its strong client base, Vanguard recently won two of PR Week’s most coveted awards, Mid-Size PR Agency of the Year and PR Agency of the Year. Also, Vanguard is growing despite a difficult economy.
“Through Vanguard, Ms. Rodriguez has made significant contributions to very important causes and organizations,” said Rafael Romero, Hispanic Magazine’s Latina Excellence Awards Program Manager. “Recognizing and sharing her successes with others in the Hispanic and Latino community is important.”
Rodriguez is the daughter of Spanish immigrants, who came to the United States from Venezuela. Like many other children of Spanish-speaking parents, Rodriguez did not learn English until elementary school and is part of the first generation in her family to graduate from college. Now, as president and owner of Vanguard, she manages client relations, supervises the firm’s day-to-day operations, and guides the company’s long-term mission.
