New York, NY–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–August 10, 2005–LATINOLOGUES, an award-winning comedy about life in America, will make its Broadway debut this fall at the Helen Hayes Theatre (240 West 44th Street) with performances beginning Tuesday, September 13. The official opening night is Sunday, October 23. This is the show that has been a favorite across the nation for years. The limited Broadway engagement will play through December 4, 2005.

Cheech Marin will direct the Broadway production of LATINOLOGUES, a collection of comedic and poignant monologues, performed in English, revealing the Latino experience in America. LATINOLOGUES was created and written by Rick Najera, one of America’s leading comedy writers with “MAD TV” and “In Living Color” among his credits. Najera is set to perform in LATINOLOGUES along with Eugenio Derbez, Rene Lavan and Shirley A. Rumierk, as they take on everything from beauty pageants to immigration, shattering Latino stereotypes with hilarious results.

LATINOLOGUES has been featured around the country in cities including Los Angeles, San Diego, Portland, San Antonio, Houston, Las Vegas, Houston, Miami, and on Showtime’s “Latino Laugh Festival” and HBO’s “Aspen Comedy Festival.” More than 70 actors have performed in the show. LATINOLOGUES recently won the Imagen Award for Best Live Theatrical Production.

Eugenio Derbez is the most popular comedian in Mexico and is also recognized throughout Latin America and the United States. He has appeared in films, television, theatre, soap operas, sketch comedies, and he has authored several books as well. Eugenio produced, directed and starred in several smash hit comedy series including “Al Derecho y al Derbez” and “Derbez en Cuando.” He currently stars in “La Hora Derbez,” airing weeknights on Univision, and he is the producer of the new Televisa series “Vecinos” (“Neighbors”).

Rick Najera is well known and respected in Hollywood for his award-winning comedic writing ability as well as his diverse talent as an actor. His groundbreaking work has provided a platform for established television and film actors to gain experience in the theatre and for countless up and coming actors and writers who have been inspired and encouraged by his success. As an actor, his most recent films include “How the Garcia Girls Spent Their Summer” and “National Lampoon’s Pledge This!”

Rene Lavan has appeared in the films “Christmas with the Kranks,” “Dirty Dancing, Havana Nights” and “Bitter Sugar,” and on TV in “CSI: Miami” and “Las Vegas. He is currently starring, producing and writing for television and films with his newly formed production company, and he was named one of People in Espanol Magazine’s “25 Most Beautiful People.”

Shirley A. Rumierk is the newcomer selected by the LATINOLOGUES team to join them in their Broadway debut. A native New Yorker of Puerto Rican and Colombian descent, she can be seen on NYC-TV as the host of the exciting new show “Cool in Your Code.” Shirley was raised in Hell’s kitchen, graduated from Harvard and always dreamed of making it to Broadway!

Cheech Marin is best known as half of the hilariously irreverent duo of ‘Cheech and Chong.’ As an actor, director, writer, musician, art collector and humanitarian, he is truly a multi-generational star, or as Cheech puts it, “People know me from the womb to the tomb.” Next up for Cheech is the September 2 release of “Underclassman,” in which he stars with Nick Cannon. To this day, ‘Cheech and Chong’ films are the number one weekend video rentals.

The playing schedule for LATINOLOGUES at the Helen Hayes Theatre will be Tuesday through Friday evenings at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 5 and 9 p.m., and Sundays at 3 and 7 p.m. Ticket prices are $40 and $60 with a $20 rush ticket for the first two rows of the orchestra available on the day of performance.
