IRVINE, Calif.,–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–October 25, 2002–Lincoln, the luxury automaker, sponsored the “Grand Reopening” of the legendary New York nightclub, the Copacabana, with its world-famous “Copa-Girls” and sizzling music on October 17.
The star-studded gala celebrated the re-opening of the renovated 48,000-square-foot, bi-level club, resurrected in New York at the corner of 34th Street and 11th Avenue. High-profile guests included: Governor George Pataki, Latin jazz artist, Johnny Pacheco and the FANIA ALL STARS; actor, Darren Hewitt Henson; rapper Angie Martinez; Spanish TV personality Celines Toribio; Latin singing sensation, Jorge Lamont and many more.
Celebrities, socialites, and club trendsetters danced the night away in a mixture of Urban-Latin fusion. The world-renowned Fania Allstars, and the new ‘Copa Girls,’ a group best known for their beauty and dancing talent, accompanied the live-performances on the stage throughout the evening, making this the perfect back drop to showcase the 2003 Lincoln Navigator.

The new Copacabana nightclub, which was immortalized and made internationally famous by Barry Manilow, features food, a stage large enough to accommodate a 20-piece band, and over-sized dance floors for salsa, merengue, hip-hop and neosoul. As part of the reopening activities, Lincoln also is sponsoring Copa’s new “Fusion Nights” every Friday until November 29.
Founded in the early 1940’s by Jules Pudell, the Copacabana has had two locations, at 10 East 60th Street and 617 57th Street, hosting the who’s who in entertainment for the next 50 years. The Copa was an instant success, where all the big names in the music industry performed, including Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Bennett, Frankie Avalon, Harry Belafonte, Jerry Vale, Jerry Lewis, The Supremes, Bob Hope, Desi Arnaz and the list continues. The Copacabana also was a place where celebrities were discovered. June Allyson, Joan Collins and Raquel Welch were among a few who started their careers as world-famous Copa girls.
Lincoln, based in Irvine, Calif., is introducing a series of new products in 2002 that will essentially transform Lincoln’s retail showrooms. Among the new vehicles slated for introduction throughout the year are the redesigned Navigator, the all-new Aviator SUV, a refreshened LS sports sedan and a totally redesigned Town Car.
