New York, NY–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–October 19, 2007–Angel Mendez, senior vice president of Manufacturing at Cisco, has been selected as the recipient of the prestigious Visionary Achiever of the Year Award by LISTA (Latinos in Information Sciences and Technology Association) for his commitment to excellence in Corporate America and for his contributions to expanding opportunities for Hispanics in the IT industry.
According to LISTA, the Visionary Achiever Award recognizes the achievements of a deserving professional who is committed to excellence and is actively driving positive change for his community. “Angel Mendez’s commitment to serving the Hispanic community is a model for others to follow,” said Jose A. Marquez-Leon, president and CEO of LISTA National. “He holds himself responsible for expanding opportunities for tomorrow’s leaders through his efforts with youth and as a mentor to many professionals.”

Mendez’s work with Latino youth has been extensive. He is a member of the board of directors at Springboard Forward, a Silicon Valley-based nonprofit organization dedicated to deploying innovative coaching and career development programs for low wage earners. He was also instrumental in developing and advocating for Conexion at Cisco, the Cisco Latino employee network. Conexion provides Latino employees at Cisco with mentors and other professional development opportunities. It also connects Cisco volunteers to local schools and a range of Latino community and educational organizations.
Mendez leads a global organization of approximately 2,000 employees who are responsible for enabling Cisco’s growth and innovation through industry leading supply chain management practices. This includes global supplier management, manufacturing and product operations, advanced sourcing, reverse logistics, manufacturing technology and quality, and demand management and planning.
Annually LISTA Awards honor Latinos in IT for their contributions to educational opportunities, promotion of professional and personal growth, and reinforcement of the vital role of U.S. Hispanics in the IT industry.
