New York, NY–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–May 10, 2004–R. Paniagua, Inc. honored New York City’s Dept. of Education’s top Hispanic students during the 16th Annual Hispanic Achievement Awards program in conjunction with the New York Yankees.
On Wednesday, April 28th, the top 125 students received this year’s award at the Gala Awards Dinner Ceremony at “Veteran Memorial Hall” Supreme Court Building at 851 Grand Concourse in the Bronx from 6 to 9 PM. Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion were among the key figures that addressed the students.
Then, on Saturday, May 1st, the honorees were recognized—before their families and all the fans—on the field at Yankee Stadium prior the New York Yankees vs. Kansas City game at 1:05 PM.
Each honored student was selected by his or her teacher and principal as the outstanding Hispanic student from their school from the 6th, 7th and 8th grades. The honorees have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, leadership and attendance, while exhibiting a positive attitude towards the importance of education. The Certificate of Achievement each student received, becomes a permanent entry in each student’s Permanent Record at the Dept. of Education.

During the festivities, Yankee pitching ace Mariano Rivera also received the “Latino Sports Person of the Year Award” for his commitment to the Latino Community.
