Discovery’s Luis Silberwasser Named Senior Vice President and General Manager for U.S. Hispanic Networks


San Francisco, CA–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)–April 4, 2005–Luis Silberwasser, seven-year veteran of Discovery Networks International, has been appointed to the newly created position of senior vice president and general manager for U.S. Hispanic Networks.

In this new role, Silberwasser will be responsible for developing and expanding Discovery’s Spanish-language product and service offerings for the U.S. Hispanic market. This includes the existing Discovery en Español and two new networks, Discovery Kids en Español and Discovery Travel & Living (Viajar y Vivir), both slated to launch in June.

Silberwasser will lead the U.S. Hispanic Network group from Miami, directly overseeing marketing, programming, ad sales and network operations. Bill Goodwyn, president, affiliate sales and marketing for Discovery Networks, U.S., will oversee the affiliate sales effort.

Raised in Colombia, Silberwasser has a wealth of experience in sales and business development, with an impressive track record in both the U.S. and international media and entertainment arenas.

Silberwasser joined Discovery in 1998 as vice president of marketing for Discovery Latin America/Iberia, where he later became vice president of affiliate sales and business development. Thereafter, he joined Discovery Communications’ European operations as head of the company’s distribution group.

In 2002, Silberwasser joined Discovery Communications’ Corporate Strategy and Development group, where he led the company’s acquisition of the Estilo channel in Spain. Most recently, Silberwasser held the position of senior vice president of international strategic planning for Discovery Networks International, where he developed medium- and long-term strategic plans and led new business initiatives, such as the division’s new entry into the lifestyle category. Additionally, he oversaw Discovery’s Canadian joint venture operations, as well as its international New Media initiatives.

Silberwasser holds a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
