Marinela® USA Inspires Self-Expression Through Creative Arts


FORT WORTH, Texas, Aug. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Marinela USA is encouraging youth to participate in creative arts programs as a healthy form of self-expression and building self-esteem by bringing back its popular Marinela Talent School (MTS) promotion. On July 23 Marinela began giving away free MTS DVDs that introduce youth to different dance forms such as Hip-hop, Nor-Tec, Latina, Pop and Hipster. One of three DVDs can be found in specially marked boxes of Gansito, Gansito Chocolate, Napolitano, Submarinos and Pinguinos.

“Last year’s promotion went so well we are bringing back Marinela Talent School for a second year,” said Marinela USA Brand Manager Melisenda Barajas. “We received a tremendous amount of positive feedback from our consumers and retailers! They loved the Marinela Talent School promotion. It got youth involved, and had an education and health element included. We know demand will be high, so this year will are increasing our DVDs giveaway to 1.5 million.”

According to a study by National Endowment for Arts, both 8th-grade and high school students who had high levels of arts engagement were more likely to aspire to college than were students with less arts engagement. The study also found that students who had intensive arts experiences in high school were three times more likely than students who lacked those experiences to earn a bachelor’s degree. They also were more likely to earn “mostly A’s” in college.

Marinela is taking MTS directly to consumers in the Los Angeles and Dallas markets. In addition to live demonstrations at various retail locations by MTS dance teams, Marinela is also hosting MTS open houses on August 3rd in Los Angles at A Place Called Home and August 11th at Life in Deep Ellum in Dallas. Both open houses are open to the public.

“We hope that the Marinela Talent School will provide another avenue for youth to get involved in the arts outside the school setting,” said Barajas. “The open houses will give students a chance to see all kinds of artistic mediums including music, dance, poetry, painting, even fire art.”
