More Than $1 Million Raised by SBS Radio Stations for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

MIAMI, Nov. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The Spanish radio stations owned and operated by Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc. (SBS) (Nasdaq: SBSA) in New York, Chicago and the San Francisco Bay area, conducted fundraising Radiothons benefiting local children’s hospitals this past weekend resulting in $1,145,522 raised in donations and pledges.

The Radiothons were produced live in each of the markets and were tailored to the musical formats of each of the stations’ listening audience. New York’s 93.1FM Amor WPAT and Chicago’s 107.9FM La Ley WLEY began their Radiothons on Thursday, Oct. 20th and ended on Saturday evening. Meanwhile, San Francisco’s 93.3FM La Raza KRZZ began broadcasting on Friday morning and ended Sunday evening.

In the New York market $245,583 was pledged or donated by 93.1FM Amor WPAT listeners to benefit three area hospitals in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut: Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital in Westchester, Children’s Specialized Hospital in New Jersey and Cohen Children’s Hospital in Long Island. In Chicago, the three-day Radiothon raised an impressive $366,984 for Children’s Memorial Hospital. In San Francisco, the area’s #1 Regional Mexican format station once again raised more than $533,000 in pledges and donations to benefit Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to give back to our communities and to an organization that provides such quality healthcare for our kids and their families,” said Joe Cunningham, VP SBS National Sales and San Francisco Market Manager. “We could not be happier with the results of the efforts of our dedicated staff in each of our markets. Our listeners have given generously over the years and we’re very proud to support those who devote their lives to the health and welfare of our most precious resource… our children.”

The funds raised during the Radiothon are part of the national efforts by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, a non-profit organization that works with 170 local children’s hospitals in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. The organization partnered with Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc. (SBS) to produce and broadcast the three Radiothons.

“We are extremely grateful to the entire SBS broadcast team,” said Joe Trevino, Vice President, Hispanic Radiothon, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, “everyone at the stations pulled together to make these three Radiothons a great success and, more importantly, a significant financial contribution for our member hospitals. These funds allow the hospitals to continue to provide much-needed medical and family support services for the millions of children served locally,” he added, “each hospital decides on how best to use the funds raised from Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals”.
