OAK BROOK, Ill.—(HISPANIC PR WRIE)–May 7, 2004–At an event at a Dallas McDonald’s restaurant, Bob Greene talked to consumers face-to-face as a part of the “McDonald’s Go Active! American Challenge,” a 36-day bicycling/walking trek across the southern portion of the United States. Greene’s stop signals the midpoint in his 3,000-mile journey to raise awareness about getting active and leading balanced lifestyles. Mike Roberts, President of McDonald’s U.S.A, joined Greene in Dallas to emphasize the importance of McDonald’s balanced lifestyles initiatives and introduce the “Go Active! Happy Meal” for adults, which is available nationwide this Tuesday.
Attending the midpoint event were singer, actress and former Miss Universe, Alicia Machado and T.V. fitness expert, Donna Richardson, who are ending their support and expertise to the McDonald’s balanced lifestyle program at various events during 2004.
“The idea behind this initiative is to get walking – the more you walk, the better you will look and feel,” Machado said. “McDonald’s and I share a similar philosophy to promote balanced, active lifestyles. We both believe in balanced nutrition, regular physical activity and in taking personal responsibility for our own well-being.”
At the event, McDonald’s introduced its first ever “Go Active! Happy Meal” for adults (available beginning May 11, 2004 through June 7, 2004 at participating restaurants nationwide, while supplies last). The Go Active! Happy Meal includes the choice of a Premium Salad, bottled water or drink of choice, a Stepometer(TM) and a fun, informative booklet that provides walking and exercising tips.
In the “Go Active! Happy Meal” for adults, McDonald’s guests have a choice of four different Premium Salads: the California Cobb salad, Caesar salad, or Bacon Ranch salad with either grilled or crispy chicken, as well as the new Premium Fiesta Salad, the newest addition to the Premium Salad line. The Premium Fiesta Salad is an upscale salad served on a bed of premium mixed greens, topped with warm seasoned beef, cheddar jack cheese, green onions, and thin crispy tortilla strips, offered with sour cream and Newman’s Own(R) All-Natural Salsa on the side.
As part of the McDonald’s “Go Active! Happy Meal” for adults, consumers will receive a Stepometer that clips on a belt and counts the number of steps they take in a day. As a part of the “McDonald’s Go Active! American Challenge,” Greene has issued a challenge to consumers to take at least 10,000 steps per day, a recommended standard by industry experts including Tommy Thompson, Secretary of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The Stepometer is included in every “Go Active! Happy Meal” for adults.
Through McDonald’s “Go Active! Happy Meal” for adults and the “McDonald’s Go Active! American Challenge,” an estimated 10 to 15 million Stepometers and walking/fitness booklets will be distributed to consumers and organizations throughout the country.
“Step With It!(TM)” Booklet
The “Step with It!” booklet, created by Greene, is an informative brochure that offers consumers fun ways to build exercise in their lives.
