San Antonio, TX–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–May 13, 2005–On Saturday, May 21, MLS Futbolito(TM), Major League Soccer’s official amateur soccer tournament rolls in to San Antonio as part of a 14-city tour. Games are open to players of all ages, abilities and affiliations. Participating players and families will enjoy a festive day filled with music, food, giveaways, soccer clinics, and player appearances, including a visit from legendary midfielder Carlos “El Pibe” Valderrama.

MLS Futbolito is a 4-v-4 soccer tournament and grassroots program that caters to the league’s growing multicultural fan base. The day-long tournament is played on small-sided fields without goalkeepers. Team rosters can consist of up to seven players and each team will play a minimum of three games in round-robin action. First and second place winners of each division will receive medals, and teams competing in the Premier Division will have a chance to win $2,000 for first place and $1,000 for second place.

In addition to participating in the games, each registered player will receive a MLS Futbolito event t-shirt and the chance to win prizes from Panasonic, RadioShack and a host of other sponsors.

Launched in 2003, MLS Futbolito is the largest grassroots event targeting Hispanics by a professional league. The community based events offer Hispanic families a unique way to celebrate their passion for soccer in a family friendly atmosphere. In 2004, the tournament grew from 10 to 12 markets and saw a 58% increase in participation. Due to the program’s success, MLS added two new markets for 2005.

The registration fee is $150 per team for those competing in the Premier Division and $120 per team for all other divisions. Players must register by May 18 to participate. The day-long tournament will take place at the Pepsi Soccer Complex at 205 Maske Road in Schertz, TX.
