Pico Rivera, CA–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–September 11, 2007–This past weekend, Smith Park in Pico Rivera was converted into an outdoor movie theatre. Hundreds of Latino families in the Los Angeles area kicked-off Nescafé Clásico’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebration with a special English-subtitled screening of “El Padrecito” featuring Mexican icon “Cantinflas.”
Cantinflas is the alter ego of Mario Moreno, widely regarded as the “Charlie Chaplin of Mexico.” Moreno was a pioneer of Mexican Cinema and his character has come to be associated with the national identity of Mexico.
The movie was shown on a large outdoor movie screen in its original Spanish format with English subtitles, allowing families to share laughs together without acculturation gaps and language barriers. The one-of-a-kind screening captured the essence of Hispanic Heritage Month, enabling parents to share a part of their cultural heritage and childhood tradition with their children, who may not be exposed to classic Mexican cinema since living in the U.S.
Also, in the spirit of Hispanic Heritage Month and Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, families attending the special screening helped raise funds for PADRES Contra El Cáncer, a non-profit organization committed to improving the quality of life for Latino children with cancer and their families. Nescafé Clásico made a $1 donation for each brand label brought to the screening.
Nescafé Clásico made it a night at the movies by providing complimentary refreshment booths featuring brand coffee, popcorn, chocolate, juices, bottled water and prizes and entertainment for the entire family.
