Eighteen Students from California Together Received a Total of $45,000 to Continue Their Education at a Four-Year College or University

Los Angeles, CA–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)–May 14, 2004–Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) recognized the recipients of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund/Nissan North America Community College Transfer Scholarship during a Celebration of Achievement ceremony held at Nissan’s headquarters on Wednesday, May 12.

The HSF/NNA scholarship program was created four years ago to provide financial assistance to community college students of Hispanic heritage transferring to a four-year college or university in order to obtain a bachelor’s degree. At the “Celebration of Achievement” ceremony, 18 Hispanic scholars from California were recognized for their academic achievements while pursuing studies in business, engineering or communications. The students were selected based on their acceptance to a four-year university, grade point average, academic recommendations, and future plans for making a difference in their community.

“Nissan is proud to support Hispanic students as they continue their educational pursuits,” said Tiarzha Taylor, manager, corporate relations at Nissan North America, Inc. “Our contribution to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund reflects Nissan’s ongoing dedication to supporting diversity and education.” “A college education is the cornerstone to financial independence and improving the quality of life,” said Sara Martinez Tucker, president and CEO of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund.

“Nissan’s contribution helps HSF advance its efforts in making a difference among Hispanic students pursuing a college education at the community college level.” To-date, NNA has awarded 104 student scholarships and has contributed a total of $562,250 to HSF since the launch of the HSF/NNA partnership in 1995.
