MIAMI, FL, OCTOBER 9, 2003 – Univision Network’s award-winning news department presents the one-hour special “Noticias Univision Presenta: En Busca de un Milagro” (“Univision News Presents: In Search of a Miracle”) on Thursday, October 16, 2003, from 10-11 pm ET/PT (9-10 pm Central/Mountain). Hosted by María Elena Salinas, co-anchor of America’s top-rated Spanish-language national evening newscast, the special features an in-depth report on the mystery of miracles.

As Pope John Paul II celebrates his Silver Jubilee (25 years of papal ministry), he beatifies Mother Teresa next week in her first step towards sainthood. Since miracles are at the root of sainthood, Salinas looks into what qualifies an individual for this status after Vatican officials acknowledge that an individual has been responsible for such a wonder.

Salinas will examine the role of divine intervention and the belief system of the faithful – no matter one’s religious denomination. Taking her investigations a step further, Salinas follows various cases where persons seek alternative cures to traditional medicine. Univision travels to Brazil in search of the so-called miracle man who claims to have supernatural powers granted by God. “The faith and desire to witness a miracle is so great that people will travel to the ends of the earth to find one,” said Salinas.

Given privileged access to Vatican archives regarding saints and their related veneration, Salinas poured over thousand of pages of documents attesting to their virtues. “It was extremely interesting to have access to exclusive 16-century documents citing the origin and details of sainthood. I believe that TV viewers across the nation will be fascinated with the Vatican’s decision-making process of elevating someone to one of the highest standards of the Catholic Church,” stated Salinas.

At different times throughout the year, “Noticiero Univision,” presents 60-minute specials focusing on news of particular interest to the Hispanic community. Reporting on a wide range of topics, this series goes beyond the regular newscast coverage to give viewers a deeper, more complete look at important events and developments.

“Noticias Univision Presenta: En Busca de un Milagro” (“Univision News Presents: In Search of a Miracle”) can be seen on Thursday, October 16, 2003, from 10-11 pm ET/PT (9-10 pm Central/Mountain).
