Princeton, NJ–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–February 5, 2004–Data show FIRST RESPONSE (R) Early Result Pregnancy Test is the at-home pregnancy test most sensitive to lower levels of the pregnancy hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin).* According to this recent study, FIRST RESPONSE can detect hCG concentrations as low as 6.3 mlU/mL hCG. This level is an amount so small it allows a woman to determine if she is pregnant five days sooner than the day of her missed period. This study appeared in the January issue of the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (Cole LA et al., Accuracy of home pregnancy tests at the time of missed menses, in press, 2004).
“All pregnancy tests are not the same,” said Laurence A. Cole, Ph.D., study author and professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, University of New Mexico, Director of USA hCG Reference Service and leading expert on hCG. “With so many pregnancy tests on the market, women have a right to know which is the most sensitive. According to this study, FIRST RESPONSE showed the greatest clinical sensitivity.”
And when a woman thinks she might be pregnant, the days before her expected period can seem like an eternity. In fact, nearly half (47%) of women say they are interested in a pregnancy test that could give them results before their missed period.(1)
“Although we always encourage women to lead a healthy lifestyle when they are trying to conceive, the sooner a woman learns she is pregnant, the sooner she can begin prenatal care and promote a healthy start to her baby’s life,” said Mary Jane Minkin, M.D., a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist in private practice in New Haven, Conn., and a clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Yale University School of Medicine. “And if she learns she is not pregnant, the sooner the anxiety of not knowing is over.”
About First Response
Among tested devices, FIRST RESPONSE is the most sensitive test and detects hCG at significantly lower levels than the other tested devices. And, a higher sensitivity helps readability. In fact, nine out of ten women prefer FIRST RESPONSE over the leading brand, EPT, for ease of read on the day of the missed period.
At-home pregnancy tests detect a woman’s level of hCG, which begins to appear in a pregnant woman 8-10 days after conception. That level doubles every 36 to 48 hours as pregnancy progresses.
FIRST RESPONSE Early Result Pregnancy Test is already available in stores.
