Economist Editor and PODER Columnist Awarded Maria Moors Cabot Prize

MIAMI, FL–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)–July 3, 2003–Michael Reid, America’s editor of The Economist and columnist of PODER magazine, has won the Maria Moors Cabot Prize for outstanding coverage of the Western Hemisphere, Columbia University announced this week. Reid is one of four winners chosen by Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism for encouraging inter-American understanding. The other winners are Joa Antonio Barros, from Jornal O Dia (Brazil), Raul Kraiselburd, from El Dia (Argentina), and Newsweek’s Mac Margolis. Reid has covered Latin America for 20 years, including spending several years in both Mexico and Brazil. He is the recipient of the prestigious Cruzeiro do Sul, awarded by the Brazilian government. Reid has been the Americas editor for The Economist since 1999 and a regular monthly columnist for PODER since 2002.
