ANTA ROSA, Calif., Feb. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR
WIRE/ — Prominent Mexican singer Paquita la del Barrio, known for her feminist stand against all things “macho,” will make her Sonoma County debut in Santa Rosa on Saturday, April 6th at 8 p.m. The popular singer of rancheras, whose songs are staples on jukeboxes and in taverns throughout Latin America, the United States and Spain, has made a name for herself as one of the great defenders of women through her songs and is often referred to as the “feminist of the Rancheras.”

Born Francisca Viveros Barradas, and known as “Paquita la del Barrio,” Paquita has gained prestige largely due to her advocacy against Mexico’s machismo male culture, which has made her especially popular with female audiences. The titles of her songs speak volumes: “Wicked Men,” “Low Blow,” “Pure Pain,” “Hypocrite,” and her mega hit “Two-Legged Rat.”

An internationally known songstress, Paquita has performed at Latin Music’s “Premio Los Nuestro” and participated in “Somos el Mundo,” the Spanish version of “We Are The World.” In 2011, she was the recipient of Billboard magazine’s inaugural “La Voz” (The Voice) award, given to an artist with a distinctive and unique on and off-stage persona. At a performance in the Zocalo, Mexico City’s central plaza, Paquita drew a crowd of 130,000—which makes the opportunity to see her in the 1600 seat Ruth Finley Person Theater, where all seats are within 75 feet of the stage, truly intimate and rare.
