For Tax Season 2004, H&R Block Seeks 6,000 Spanish-Speaking Tax Professionals

H&R Block’s Tax Training School Now Open to Provide Up-to-date Necessary Training for Tax Professionals

KANSAS CITY, MO,–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–August 4, 2003–H&R Block, the nation’s leading tax services company, announced the addition of approximately 6,000 positions for Spanish-speaking tax professionals for the 2004 tax season. This figure represents a 20% increase over last year’s job offerings for bilingual professionals, and is the foundation to service their more than 1 million Hispanic clients.

Many of these Hispanic clients are native Spanish speakers and feel more comfortable addressing their tax matters with Spanish-speaking professionals. Helping clients in the language of their preference facilitates the communication process in a topic that is complicated in its own nature, and allows the company to provide the appropriate services to the Hispanic community.

“The comprehensive and continuous training available and required from H&R Block tax professionals enables them to meet their clients’ diverse tax preparation needs, from completing the most basic tax return to handling more complex personal and business matters,” said Carlos Ayala, manager of Hispanic programs at H&R Block. “The company’s tax professionals are updated on all recent tax law changes like standard deduction marriage penalty relief, the reduction of the other regular income tax rates and their potential implications in each individual client.”

Because these tax law changes also affect Hispanic taxpayers, successful tax professionals need to know how to apply the amendments that are being phased in from the 2002 legislation, as well as the impact that the Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003 and several other legislative measures have on them.

Completing H&R Block’s Tax Training School program may help current and would-be Spanish-speaking tax professionals obtain one of the 6,000 job openings available with the company. The training is an 11-week income tax course designed for those without existing tax knowledge, as well as those interested in updating their tax skills. Completion of the course is neither an offer nor a guarantee of employment, however many successful students are offered job interviews by the company.

The training provided by H&R Block has enabled persons from many walks of life to embark on a new career path on the way to becoming successful tax professionals. For seasoned professionals the Tax Training School is also a tool for ongoing professional development.

“Becoming a Hispanic tax professional can be a very rewarding experience. The knowledge you acquire during H&R Block’s Tax Training School together with your Spanish-speaking skills enable you to provide meaningful services to clients,” said Noemi Muñoz, an experienced H&R Block tax professional.

“In a stagnant economy the U.S. Hispanic market is emerging as one of the most promising areas for growth and for this reason we are offering the opportunity to begin a new career path. H&R Block is a solid, well-structured tax services company where people can find a long-lasting and gratifying professional career. Our job opportunities offer a high degree of flexibility and can range from part-time employment to full-time positions,” Ayala explained.

Beginning in September, H&R Block’s Tax Training School will offer classes in Spanish at many H&R Block offices located in Hispanic communities throughout the country. The courses are taught by experienced H&R Block professionals, many with more than a decade of expertise in serving tax clients. The H&R Block Tax Training School program will cover income, taxes, credits, deductions and expenses, among other topics.
