–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – CONTEXTO LATINO)– Not surprisingly, the average size of the home bathroom has almost doubled during the past few decades. Still, many of us live in homes with considerably “smaller” bathrooms; those that are 75 square feet or less. While they might be short on space, these smaller bathrooms need not lack style and character, or most importantly, the feel of a more spacious spa-like bath.

Even so, you don’t have to spend thousands of dollars to pump up a pint-size bath. The following tips can be used to “trick” the eye into seeing more space than is truly there.

Reflect on the Space. Mirrors are a welcome addition to any small bathroom because of the light-enhancing and reflective qualities they provide in visually opening up a space. Try hanging a mirror directly above the bathroom sink where it will reflect the light in the room and pick up the color and pattern of the walls.

Mirrors are great at making the most out of a small space,” said Tim Bitterman, Senior Product Manager, Inspirations(R) by Moen(R), a leading designer and manufacturer of bath accessories. “Not only do they make a space feel larger, but they can pull together the whole look of a room.

Inspirations(R) by Moen(R) offers several new, stylish mirrors to complement its existing accessories lines. The Iso(R), Glenshire(R), Gilcrest(R), Sage(R) and Sienna(R) collections each offer beautiful, yet practical solutions for smaller baths in a variety of finishes.

Focus on the Finish. When choosing a mirror, faucet or accessories, be sure to coordinate the finish throughout the room for a cohesive look. Moen(R) bathroom collections, such as the new Brantford(R) Collection, offer a variety of finishes, including popular LifeShine(R) Brushed Nickel, Oil Rubbed Bronze and Chrome, and offer a full line of coordinating accessories in the same finishes for a completely coordinated and “finished” look.

Create the Illusion of Space. It is possible to “add” space without tearing out a wall. The new Curved Shower Rod from Inspirations by Moen, provides six extra inches of space in the shower. Imagine having the extra elbow room to move about and luxuriate in your shower – all from the unique curve of this decorative rod.

Expand The Ceiling. You don’t need to actually raise your bathroom ceiling to create a roomier feel. Create the illusion of a taller bathroom by painting a lattice or molding design around the edge of the ceiling. Or, install crown molding – just remember to make sure to paint the crown molding the same color as the ceiling. A contrasting crown molding color will have the opposite effect, breaking up the line of vision and making the space seem cramped and low to the floor.

Add Depth. One of the most cost effective and easiest ways to “optically enlarge” a small bathroom is through the use of paint. But keep this tip in mind, too much color can create a bathroom that’s too busy and cramped looking; while too little color can leave you with a sterile, cold-feeling bathroom. Pick soft creams, light neutrals and pastels to open up this small space. And to lend some contrast, consider adding bright towel colors or accessories.

Let There Be Light. Lighting has a profound effect on the perception of room size. If you don’t have a bathroom window, halogen lighting is a good solution because it offers precise light rather then the scattered light provided by fluorescent bulbs. If you have enough height in the room, consider installing soft-diffused lighting, or use several recessed lights. And, although it can be costly, a skylight is another option that can make a room appear significantly larger.

And remember, just because your bathroom may be smaller, doesn’t mean that it has to be dull. Visually opening up a bathroom can make it a warm and inviting retreat that would rival any larger bathroom!
