Language Line Services and AT&T Team Up to Connect Culturally Diverse Population with Nation's Businesses

San Francisco, CA–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)–October. 18, 2006–Language Line Services, the global leader of over-the-phone language interpretation, powered by the new AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T), today introduced Your World. Your Language.(SM), the first free phone service that connects limited English speaking consumers to banking, insurance, telephone, Internet, utility and other vital business services in their native languages within their local Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA). By simply dialing 1-888-855-0811, limited English speakers, including tourists and immigrants to the U.S., can talk in their own languages to a host of key businesses, anytime and at no charge.

Your World. Your Language.(SM) serves customers in eight languages, and will be available in San Francisco on October 18, 2006, and in surrounding areas within the next six weeks. The service will be rolled out in additional regions of the country over the course of the next twelve months.

“Imagine that you are a small business owner in San Francisco, and you want to apply for a loan to make investments in your business. And you’d prefer to conduct the transaction in your own language to make sure that everything is just right,” said Louis Provenzano, Language Line Services’ newly appointed President and Chief Operating Officer. “Until now, your options were very limited. But today a whole new era of communication has opened up, thanks to Your World. Your Language.(SM)”

When limited English speaking customers call 1-888-855-0811 they first choose their preferred language and service. A Language Line Services interpreter then connects the customer with the requested provider, and the service is completed through a three-way conversation. The Language Line Services interpreter stays on the line until the very end of the call, interpreting the entire conversation for the consumer.

“More people than ever before in the U.S. speak a language other than English and, not surprisingly, they feel more comfortable and secure when they can conduct business in their preferred language,” said Provenzano. “Limited English speaking residents in San Francisco will find that Your World. Your Language.(SM) is a new way to get things done quickly and easily, whether it is signing up for cable television, opening a bank account, or getting a new cell phone.”

According to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the legal permanent resident flow in the U.S. in 2005 reached more than one million. Provenzano noted that most enter into multilingual communities with niche economies where they only need limited English proficiency to survive financially. As a result, many limited English speakers have difficulty conducting business outside of their own neighborhoods, making it difficult to access important services.

Language Line Services developed the patent-pending technology that makes Your World. Your Language.(SM) possible, and will provide the specially-trained and experienced interpreters. AT&T will operate the network, and will be responsible for the routing of calls.

“1-888-855-0811 gives consumers a direct hotline to the services they need, in the languages of their choice,” said Jody Garcia, Vice President of Specialty Customer Care for AT&T West.

Language Line Services, powered by the new AT&T, chose to launch the new free service in San Francisco because it is one of the most diverse cities in the country, where Asian-born citizens make up more than half of the foreign born population. The service will be offered in Cantonese (Chinese), English, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin (Chinese), Russian, Spanish, Tagalog and Vietnamese.

The San Francisco launch will be followed by a nationwide roll-out of Your World. Your Language.(SM) over the next 12 months in the country’s most culturally diverse communities.

Noteworthy national and San Francisco-based WorldPartner(SM) members signed on to offer their services through Your World. Your Language.(SM) include 1-800-DENTIST(R), AT&T, Cingular Wireless, City of San Francisco, Dish Network, San Francisco Opera, Orbitz, etc.
