FORT LAUDERDALE, FL,–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–February 9, 2004–Porter Novelli today announced the appointment of Fernando Figueredo as director of the agency’s Latin American region. Figueredo, who will be based in Fort Lauderdale and also will serve as the general manager of that office, will lead client service and business development efforts in the region. He also will provide the agency with new expertise in reaching the growing Hispanic market in the U.S.
Figueredo is a senior counselor with more than 25 years of experience running regional and U.S. Hispanic communications programs. Most recently, he’s run his own firm while serving as a professor of public relations at Florida International University. Prior to that, he served as vice president of corporate communications for AOL – Latin America.

Prior to joining AOL, Figueredo served as vice president for corporate communications for the Latin American region at Lucent Technologies, where he was successful in raising awareness of the Lucent brand to the highest level of any of the company’s international regions. Before Lucent, Figueredo had been AT&T’s public relations regional director for the Caribbean and Central America, and had held the position of director for Hispanic markets for AT&T’s 13-state U.S. southern region. He worked with BellSouth as the company’s director of Hispanic markets, as well as in various other marketing, advertising and engineering assignments, both domestically and internationally.
Figueredo has been a speaker and panelist in numerous conferences and seminars in the United States and in Latin America. He has won several awards, including the Hispanic Magazine “Hispanic Achievement Award” in the category of “U.S.-Latin America Friendship.” In 1999, Figueredo received the prestigious Silver Anvil Award from the Public Relations Society of America for the top International Integrated Communications Program for that year.
Figueredo hold’s a master’s degree in business administration from Florida International University with an emphasis on marketing communications and a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering from the University of Florida.
