Holiday Safety Preparation Essential to Protect Consumers; County Sheriff and Fire Departments Join Forces with Corporate Leaders to Advise Consumers

WHAT:

Media briefing advising consumers about the importance of promoting holiday safety at home and in the neighborhood.

WHY:

With the holiday season in full gear, consumers often need a reminder about the potential dangers that often accompany holiday festivities.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, fires occurring during the holiday season injure 2,600 individuals and cause more than $930 million in damage each year.

A 2005 Identity Fraud Survey Report by Javelin Strategy & Research, claimed that 9.3 million people in the U.S. were victims of identity fraud in 2004 and that the annual cost of identity fraud was $52.6 billion.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has found in a past survey that more than 800 children before the age of 14 are injured or killed every day in motor vehicle accidents. Many more are injured on the streets during the months where Daylight Savings Time is observed.

It is essential that consumers prepare for the holidays by taking certain precautions to safeguard their families and their homes. This media briefing will offer specific tips and other related information on how to have a safe, enjoyable and memorable experience during the holiday season.
