White Plains, NY–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–May 12, 2003–Heineken USA donated $10,000 to support the Celia Cruz Foundation through its newly created Green Ribbons program. The program is part of a national effort to raise awareness and funds to support music education programs in Hispanic communities across the country. The Heineken Green Ribbons debuted at this year’s Billboard Latin Music Awards Show in Miami last week. The first recipient of funds generated by the initiative is the Celia Cruz Foundation.
At the Billboard Latin Music Awards Show, guests attending wore a specially created Heineken Green Ribbon to show their support of this noteworthy cause, as well as to raise funds for the Celia Cruz Foundation. In turn, Heineken made a charitable donation to the Celia Cruz Foundation for each Heineken Green Ribbon worn. Ms. Cruz assisted the initiative by encouraging others to participate.
Nearly 1,000 ribbons were worn by attending celebrities, executives and fans — including Billboard Award winner for Tropical/Salsa Album of the Year – La India and the sensational Latin group Bacilos.
Founded by music industry legend Celia Cruz, The Celia Cruz Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for under-privileged students wishing to study music. During her 50-year span in the music industry, Ms. Cruz has been a tireless supporter of music education issues in the Hispanic community.
