Herndon, VA–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)–August 8, 2006–RCN Corporation (NASDAQ: RCNI), a leading provider of triple play cable, high-speed internet and phone services, announced today that it will launch an innovative, themed tier of Hispanic cable TV programming specifically designed to dramatically increase choice for RCN’s Hispanic customers.

On September 1, 2006 RCN will begin to launch a high-quality, content-rich Hispanic tier of cable TV programming that includes 30 distinctive channels, to its customers in its Boston, Chicago, New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. markets. The new tier will include four themed packages that will allow customers maximum flexibility to mix and match their programming selections according to their interests and preferences.

“We’re proud to be an industry leader in offering a customized line up of Spanish content themed packages that feature sports, family and children, travel and lifestyle, and country of origin programs,” said Peter Aquino, RCN’s President and CEO. “These packages, which are the first in our roll out of international-themed packages, effectively group channels by interest. They combine the best in Spanish language programming with the largest breadth of choice available. RCN asked its Hispanic customers what they wanted, and we are pleased to be providing it to them.”

RCN chose to proactively create the Hispanic-oriented programming tier to benefit its Spanish-speaking customers by addressing the group’s diverse heritage, culture, and strong sense of family.

Richard Ramlall, RCN’s SVP of External and Strategic Affairs, explained, “RCN recognizes the importance of our Hispanic community and its unique needs. We’re continuously listening to consumer’s wishes and we’ve responded by crafting a Hispanic tier full of program choice.” Ramlall added further, “This new offering also represents RCN’s commitment to address the goals announced by FCC Chairman Kevin Martin and Senator John McCain by giving our cable subscribers additional choice in the programming they purchase.”

RCN’s Hispanic-themed tier includes 30 Spanish-language channels offering the best in news, movies, sports, female-focused programs, music, educational programs and country of origin, including CNN en Espanol, De Pelicula, Cine Mexicano, GolTV, Latele Novela Network, Telehit, LaFamilia Cosmovision, WAPA-TV and Ecuavisa. Customers can subscribe to the entire 30-channel tier or choose a combination of four subject-oriented programming packages, including daily lifestyle and travel, sports, family and children’s programming, and country of origin.

“We view this as an exciting opportunity for us to reach the Puerto Rican communities located in RCN’s urban markets on the East Coast,” said Joe Ramos, General Manager of WAPA-TV in San Juan, Puerto Rico. “We are especially pleased because this programming brings WAPA into the cable homes of the key New York City market for the first time.”

Colleen Glynn, Senior VP Affiliate Sales for OlympuSAT, a distributor of leading Hispanic services added, “RCN’s size and concentration in key markets offers flexibility to highlight Hispanic entertainment programming options. We believe RCN’s themed programming will resonate well with the Hispanic community and are pleased to participate in the endeavor because it enables our network partners to expand their market reach.”

“Themed a la carte packaging provides true customer choice and pricing flexibility. For example, families desiring Spanish language programming will now be able to receive over 30 Spanish channels in addition to their favorite general English programming,” explained Programming Head for RCN Corporation Lynne Buening. “Customers with more focused family/children and sports viewing preferences can combine programming packages to fit their needs.”

RCN also anticipates creating similar programming initiatives for other communities within its customer base.
