Los Angeles, CA–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–November 6, 2007–“Retador Azteca” is an innovative reality show from Azteca America Network and the first about boxing in the United States, produced by a Latin Television Network. Eight Mexican boxers and eight American boxers will set aside their differences to focus on a single goal—to be the new champion of RETADOR AZTECA. The contestants will lay it all on the line in the ring. They will enjoy victories and cry the defeats. The winner will take home a prize of $50,000, while the runner up will win $10,000.
Jorge “El Travieso” Arce, world flyweight champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), will be the host of the show and will share his experiences with the future challengers.
RETADOR AZTECA is a joint production of Azteca America Network and Mapitv (http://www.mapitv.com), which will air 18 hour-long episodes every Sunday at 8:00 p.m. / 7:00 central starting on January 27, 2008.
The crew of the program successfully traveled throughout a large part of the United States in search of the next “retadores”. At each city, they were met by countless boxers who showed up with the hopes of earning a spot on the show. Cities like Houston, Miami, New York, Chicago and the island of Puerto Rico already have their first representatives.
Auditions are still underway and a large number of boxers are expected this Thursday, November 8 at the open casting that will take place in the city of Los Angeles (1st Street Boxing Gym, 106 S St Louis Street, Los Angeles, CA 90003, between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m.). To conclude this successful tour throughout the U.S., the crew of RETADOR AZTECA will be in the city of Atlanta on Sunday, November 11 in search of the final challenger (Murphy Boxing Club, 2688 King Avenue, Doraville, GA 30340, between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.).
Rules to enter:
— Be between 18 and 25 years of age.
— Feather weight: (123-126 lbs. or 54-57 kilos).
— Have competed in a minimum of 5 fights and a maximum of 15.
— Have a clean record.
— Be in excellent physical shape (medical certificates up to date).
— Bilingual (Spanish and English).
— Be a U.S. citizen to participate as a “Retador” for the USA.
— Be a Mexican citizen to participate as a “Retador” for Mexico.
This unique boxing reality show promises to change the look of Latin television in the U.S. In the month of May, for the first time in history, the final “Retadores” representing the U.S. and Mexico will weigh in at the border between both countries: the city of Tijuana. The grand finale will be aired live from the west coast in the month of May 2007. At that time the best “Retador” will claim the title of RETADOR AZTECA.
