New York, NY–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–May 11, 2005–Desperate Housewives star Ricardo Antonio Chavira joins, Actor Yul Vazquez (War of the Worlds), TV personality Eduardo Xol (Extreme Makeover: Home Edition), “La Dama del Radio” Liliana Ayende (Latino Mix 105.9) and 150 lucky CATALINA readers to sip tea for good heart health and charity.

The upscale afternoon affair at the historic Carlyle Hotel in New York on Monday, May 16 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. is part of the CATALINA magazine’s 3rd annual “Essence of Latinas” national tour, which promotes good health for Latinas nationwide. During the “Essence of Latinas” tour, CATALINA magazine is spotlighting The Heart Truth—a national campaign for women about heart disease sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. Heart disease is the #1 killer of Latinas, yet only 42 percent of Hispanic women are aware that it is their biggest health threat.

As part of the magazine’s commitment to raising awareness of heart disease among Latinas, CATALINA is providing heart health information, bi-lingual resources, and Red Dress Pins—the national symbol of women and heart disease awareness created by NHLBI and The Heart Truth—at the NY tea, and throughout the tour, to urge readers to protect their hearts and join in the fight against heart disease among women.

At the tea experience, winners will receive beauty makeovers, spa treatments, and gifts; and Ricardo Antonio Chavira will debut his May/June CATALINA cover – marking the first time a man graces the cover of the 4-year-old national magazine. The New York event also features a silent auction featuring designs by Latina artists – including a Zalia cosmetics gift bag and a ZAZII designer purse – with all proceeds benefiting the Hispanic non-profit ASPIRA.
