LOS ANGELES, Sept. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — IndieBlitz and MVD Entertainment Group, in association with Yellow Hat Productions, has announced the September 26th, 2012 nationwide and online DVD release of Before We Say Goodbye, a critically-acclaimed film that realistically depicts contemporary Hispanic-American culture.
The independently produced film is based on the play We Are Hispanic-American Women… OK? by Albuquerque writer Patricia Crespin. Filmed throughout New Mexico and on location in Mexico at the Basilica of the Virgin of Guadalupe and at the pyramids of Teotihuacan, Paul Davids’ Before We Say Goodbye was featured on Telemundo and is now being distributed throughout Latin America by Universal Pictures International Television.
“Before We Say Goodbye is a special and heartfelt achievement not to be missed. An enriching experience that will touch movie audiences everywhere,” wrote Pete Hammond, of Boxoffice Magazine.
Lupita Gonzales of the Las Vegas Optic said: “Although there have been many literary works presented under the general rubric of ‘Hispanic issues’, I don’t know that I have been so moved by a presentation as I was by Before We Say Goodbye. Why? In a word: authenticity.”
In 2007, director Paul Davids saw a Nat Gold production of We Are Hispanic-American Women…OK? He immediately approached Crespin about developing her play as a motion picture. “I am not Hispanic,” commented Davids, “but I fell in love with the story because it’s overwhelmingly universal and it strikes right to the heart. My Big Fat Greek Wedding wasn’t just for Greeks, and this film isn’t just for Hispanics.”
“It’s wonderful to see my play come to life as a film. While it celebrates Hispanic culture, it’s a story about family. It also implies that faith can bring you miracles even if you don’t believe in them,” explained Patricia Crespin, who is co-writer/co-producer of the film.
Juanita Sena-Shannon, an accomplished Santa Fe stage and film actress, plays the lead character of Ramona Garcia. Featuring a remarkable score by Brian Thomas Lambert, the film’s title is from a song by Rebekah del Rio. The many bonus features on the DVD include a concert of Rebekah del Rio performing at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, and an extensive interview with Patricia Crespin.
The DVD is in English with Spanish subtitles. The film is rated PG-13.
