According to the most recent studies by the Centers for Disease Control, Latinos were four times more likely to be diagnosed with HIV/AIDS than Caucasians and four times more likely than Caucasians to die from HIV/AIDS. In 2006, the Miss Universe Organization formed a partnership with the Latino Commission on AIDS to help educate and advocate on issues related to HIV/AIDS prevention in the Latino community. Hailing from Japan, Miss Universe 2007 Riyo Mori joins the Latino Commission on AIDS, with hope and in solidarity, to continue the fight against HIV/AIDS and to encourage Latinas, Latinos and all individuals to join her in getting tested for HIV.
Members of the media are invited to join Miss Universe and the Latino Commission on AIDS to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS.
