Washington DC–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–May 3, 2004–The National Association of Hispanic Publications Foundation announced today that Rod Paige, Secretary of the Department of Education, is confirmed to speak to America’s Hispanic Press in the NAHP, Inc.’s 6th Annual Media Summit. Secretary Page will speak at the “Meet the Hispanic Press” Luncheon, which will take place at the National Press Club, on Wed. June 9, at noon.

At the Hispanic Press Luncheon, Secretary Page will address issues related to public policy and education for Hispanics, particularly the No Child Left Behind program. The address will be open to questions from Hispanic journalists.

“Hispanics represent the fastest growing segment of the U.S. population and we must continue to communicate the opportunities afforded to them under No Child Left Behind. Our Feria Educativa series, led by the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans, has been very effective in disseminating the educational resources and tools which parents, families, and entire communities need in order to become strong advocates for the education of Latino children,” said Secretary Paige.

Previously to his position at the Department of Education, Secretary Paige served as the dean of the College of Education at Texas Southern University. In 2001, he was named the National Superintendent of the Year by the American Association of School Administrators.

NAHP, Inc. Media Summit will take place from June 9 to 11. It will gather over 50 Hispanic publishers who will lobby and educate Congress and the Administration for better public policies, particularly in Federal media procurement, to more effectively reach Hispanic readers and tax payers.
