Washington, DC–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – PRNewswire)–March 11, 2008–The U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) announced today that Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and Congressman Xavier Becerra will speak at the 2008 Breakfast on the Hill during the 18th Annual USHCC Legislative Conference in Washington, DC.
“The USHCC is privileged to have such notable figures as Senator Hutchison and Congressman Becerra join us in launching our Conference’s Day on the Hill,” said David C. Lizárraga, USHCC Board Chairman. “Senator Hutchison has made her mark in U.S. history by becoming the first and only woman ever elected to represent Texas in our nation’s Senate. We applaud her and eagerly anticipate hearing from her—especially at this time when our Hispanic women are leading our nation in business creation at a rate six times the national average.”
Senator Hutchison plays a key role in the Senate leadership. Elected by her colleagues as Chairman of the Republican Policy Committee in the 110th Congress, Sen. Hutchison is the fourth-highest ranking Republican Senator. She also serves on the Republican National Hispanic Assembly (RNHA) National Advisory Committee.
Elected to the House of Representatives in 1992, Congressman Xavier Becerra serves as Assistant to the Speaker of the House and is the only Representative from Southern California currently on the powerful House Committee on Ways and Means. This committee is responsible for formulating our nation’s laws on taxes, Social Security, Medicare, trade and income security.
“We look forward to hearing from Congressman Becerra, a champion for our nation’s Hispanic business community,” said Augustine Martinez, USHCC President & CEO. “As Assistant to the Speaker of the House, Rep. Becerra wields a powerful influence in House leadership, helping to set priorities and drive the legislative decision-making process.”
As part of its Annual National Legislative Conference, the USHCC hosts a Breakfast on the Hill to provide a forum for top-ranking Congressional leaders to address Conference participants. Past event speakers include other distinguished Members of Congress such as Representative Charlie Rangel and Senator John Kerry.
The Breakfast will be held on March 12th from 8:00 – 9:30 AM in the Rotunda Room of the Ronald Reagan Building, which is located at 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW. This event is a precursor to a highly anticipated White House Briefing.
The Legislative Conference brings together the nation’s top business owners, opinion leaders and key governmental and administration officials for a three-day gathering to address the most pressing legislative concerns of the nation’s largest and fastest growing business segment—Hispanic entrepreneurs. Expansion of hemispheric relations and trade, health care, energy efficiency, and small business programs are among the many issues receiving top billing at this year’s Legislative Conference.
