WASHINGTON, August 22 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — LATINA Style, the premier magazine addressing the needs of professional Latinas in the U.S, will host the 5th annual National LATINA Symposium on September 5, 2008 at the Capital Hilton in Washington D.C. The Symposium provides a national platform for Latina entrepreneurs and professional working women to address the most pressing issues affecting the Hispanic woman in the United States.
The Honorable Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) is the 2008 conference chair. Open to the public and attended by Latina leaders from corporate America, the government and military, the Symposium will feature panels and workshops designed to unite and empower Latinas and will include some of the most prominent Latinas in corporate America.
This year’s panels include “Secrets of Successful Leadership: Translating Power into Action” which will be moderated by United States Treasurer Ana Cabral and will feature distinguished panelists including: Brig. Gen. Angela Salinas of the U.S. Marine Corps, Lourdes Hassler, president of NSHMBA, and Diana Real of State Farm. A second panel titled “Achieving your Potential” and will be moderated by Carmen Bauza of Wal-Mart.
This year LATINA Style will further expand the Symposium by producing a groundbreaking panel designed to address issues unique to Latinas in the military. The panel is titled, “Discipline, Commitment, Courage: Applying Military Skills to Everyday Life” and will be moderated by Capt. Kathy Contres of the U.S. Navy.
The Symposium will conclude with the Distinguished Service Awards Luncheon, which LATINA Style co-hosts with the Department of Defense. At the luncheon 14 award recipients, representing each branch of the Armed Forces, will be honored for their excellence in service. The keynote speaker will be Col. Lisa Firmin of the U.S. Air Force. This is the only national awards program specifically for Latinas in the military.
The day will culminate with the LATINA Style flagship event — the Anna Maria Arias Memorial Business Fund Gala. This program, created in memory of LATINA Style Founder Anna Maria Arias, is the most coveted business awards program for Latina business owners in the United States. That evening 10 awards will be granted to Latina entrepreneurs from across the nation, who have demonstrated excellence in entrepreneurship and commitment to their community.
