WASHINGTON, Aug. 29 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — In the aftermath of Hurricane Gustav, which left 69 dead and hundreds homeless in Haiti, a new website called Pan American Relief (http://www.PanAmericanRelief.org) is collecting donations for the victims, the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) announced today.

“Your donation will help poor Haitians who need immediate assistance,” says Amy Coughenour Betancourt, Deputy Director of the non-profit. “The Pan American Relief website is a safe and fast way to donate to the victims in Haiti.”

PADF (http://www.padf.org) launched the Pan American Relief site on Friday as a conduit for donations towards natural disaster relief in the Caribbean and Latin America. When disasters strike, poor communities often lose everything and cannot reconstruct due to lack of insurance or savings.

Pan American Relief is designed to effectively collect funding from any website visitor who wishes to make a difference as soon as a disaster occurs. Donations are tax-deductible in the United States, routed directly to those affected, and managed transparently and efficiently with local partners.

After a natural disaster, PADF works closely with municipal leaders, community organizations, companies, and civil defense agencies to identify the highest priorities, mobilize the business sector, and deliver programs and resources with the greatest impact. Once initial needs are met, PADF participates in reconstruction. PADF is also the official disaster relief arm of the Organization of American States (OAS).

About PADF

The Pan American Development Foundation was founded in 1962 as a non-profit affiliate of the Organization of American States. PADF works with civil society, the private sector, and governments to create opportunities and improve lives for the disadvantaged in Latin America and the Caribbean. With a commitment to local capacity and the Inter-American spirit of cooperation, PADF builds programs that create jobs, enhance education, build skills, foster community participation, and strengthen resiliency through the power of people, local solutions, and partnerships.
