CINCINNATI, May 1 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — As part of a national campaign to educate women and their families about living healthier, Speaking of Women’s Health will hold its annual Community Event at all Wal-Mart stores and Supercenters nationwide on Saturday, May 3 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. In time for Mother’s Day, this event honors the “Everyday Super Heroes” in our lives by providing them with the gift of knowledge and good health.
Women attending the Speaking of Women’s Health Community Event, one of the largest single-day, free events focused on female health and wellness in the United States, will obtain vital information about good health and tips for staying healthy. At the event, attendees will receive important health screenings, along with complimentary product samples from Speaking of Women’s Health’s national sponsors and a free book, A Few of Our Favorite Things. The book, which debuts at the May 3 Community Event, profiles successful female leaders and celebrities sharing some of their most precious belongings.
“Millions of women have already taken to heart what they have learned at these events and made commitments to take small steps towards good health for themselves and their families,” said Enid Oquendo, event coordinator, for Speaking of Women’s Health, to encourage women to attend this important event. “Give the women in your life the gift of knowledge and help them to live the theme, ‘Be Strong. Be Healthy. Be in Control of your health’, for you and your family.”
At the event, women are encouraged to “Take a Pledge for Better Health” to underscore their commitment to living healthier lives. These pledges can include dietary and exercise changes, increasing awareness of family history of certain diseases, and talking more openly with their physicians. Since Speaking of Women’s Health launched the “Take a Pledge” program at its Community Event at Wal-Mart more than four years ago, women have taken more than 4.7 million pledges to improve their health by making one small change in their daily lives.
Speaking of Women’s Health was founded in 1995 as a one-day women’s health event. The event has grown to become a national foundation with more than 50 conferences and events in cities nationwide, including two national multicultural health initiatives, Universal Sisters for women of color and Hablando de la Salud de la Mujer for Hispanic women, and Growing Together, Connecting for Life for mothers and daughters.
