Washington, DC–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–September 23, 2004–The National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), in conjunction with the Secretary of Defense, honored Sprint as a 2004 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award recipient on September 21, 2004 in Washington, DC.
Sprint employs approximately 61,000 employees nationwide, and actively recruits Guard and Reserve members, as well as prior military personnel, military spouses and other family members. About 12 percent of Sprint employees are military members. Since September 11, 2001, nearly 850 Sprint employees have been deployed, with as many as 187 employees out on active duty at one time. Sprint provides mobilized employees with pay differential, along with continued benefits for their families.

The Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, a Waterford crystal eagle, was introduced in 1996 to publicly recognize the significant contributions and sacrifices made by America’s employers of Guardsmen and Reservists.
