MIAMI–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)–March 17, 2003–StarMedia (http://www.starmedia.com), a full-service web portal serving Spanish-speaking audiences in the Americas, announced today it has renovated its site, upgrading its overall look and services to further expand its reach with end users and advertisers. Due to design and technological advancements, StarMedia now offers enhanced email, navigation and search capabilities and an improved user interface, including the elimination of pop-ups. The web portal also provides greater flexibility and services to its advertisers, specializing in rich media formats plus greater opportunities for product integration. Additionally, with five million active email users, the site is one of the few Spanish-language web services to provide quality, loyal users for direct email marketing.

As part of its strategic upgrade, the company also announced it has named Harry Neuhaus Vice President of Sales. Aquilino Pena, who oversees the StarMedia business unit, made the announcement. Based in Miami, Neuhaus reports to the Spain-based Pena.

StarMedia currently reaches eight million Hispanic and Latin American unique users. A unique user is defined as a person who has entered the site at least once in the past month.

“New leadership, improved technologies, an inviting look and enhanced services mark the beginning of a fresh chapter in StarMedia’s life. Harry is a respected media veteran, with a proven track record in managing sales and business operations,” said Pena. “Armed with a vibrant, improved site including the latest technologies like Dart, DartMail and CheckM8, Harry and his team are creating innovative marketing opportunities which can be measured and guaranteed.”

Under a new company promise, Tu gente. Tu idioma. (Translation: Your people. Your language.), StarMedia’s new look is designed to be attractive to its users while providing smart marketing opportunities for advertisers. StarMedia now gives clients more flexibility than other US Hispanic and Latin American sites by accepting the broadest variety of rich media formats, without the use of pop-ups. For instance, the traditional “banner” ad at the top of the page has been replaced for a larger, more integrated 350 x 250 size within the center of the home page.

In addition, StarMedia is raising the creative bar in Spanish-language online by improving its rich media capabilities via CheckM8. These upgraded services eliminate creative barriers for advertisers, allowing them to develop breakthrough interactive campaigns which capture attention and engage users.

“According to studies conducted by the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB), large online ad formats deliver greater results overall. These ads are enticing without diminishing the overall online experience. StarMedia is proud to be one of the pioneers in introducing these new formats to the Spanish-language ad community,” said Neuhaus. “By providing a better portfolio of services and ideas including a comprehensive direct email marketing program, StarMedia improves clients’ metrics, plus increases brand association and awareness.”

Neuhaus will direct all of StarMedia’s sales and marketing activities, overseeing a team of professionals based in Miami and Mexico. He is tasked with developing and implementing sales strategies and overseeing new business opportunities.

With nearly twenty years in the media industry, Neuhaus’ expertise includes pioneering cable television and Internet sales in the Latin America region, as well as global sales and marketing efforts for a leading magazine covering the same region. Prior to joining StarMedia, Neuhaus worked for Latin Trade, a pan-regional news monthly, Yahoo! Inc., MTV Networks Latin America and Turner Broadcasting System Inc.

Born and raised in Mexico City, Harry holds an MBA degree from Rutgers Graduate School of Management and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, San Diego.
