“As a regionally-accredited institution, St. Thomas Universitys education degrees would be accepted by most state-level departments of education as one of the credentials needed to receive a teaching certificate in a particular state,” said Dr. Edward Blackwell. Rev. Blackwell directs STUs Institute of Education and can be reached via eblackwell@stu.edu by those looking for last-minute graduate enrollment. In addition to the education degrees, the School of Leadership Studies recently launched its Master in Art Management. The program has been steadily growing in enrollment as Greater Miamis art scene has been increasing its presence. “Few universities provide a specialization in “Art as a Business,” says Dr. Gloria Ruiz, gruiz@stu.edu, who also directs the Institute for Communications, Entertainment and Media that offers in-demand graduate degrees such as Electronic Media. “The Art Management degree empowers managers and entrepreneurs in art galleries, museum and other cultural or public service institutions through a curriculum concentration in the economy of art, its marketing, legal aspects, production, financing and fundraising.”

Also within that School, the Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Executive Management synthesizes cutting-edge concepts and the students professional experiences, serving working adults who wish to advance their careers. The degree is geared to employees who hold managerial, executive and other leadership positions in industry, government and non-profit organizations. Students gain first-hand knowledge of current practices and trends using a mixture of theory and practice. MPS students are normally enrolled in a cohort format with students in each cohort taking classes together.

Most of the curriculum is online and the program represents a fast-track way to advancement that can be achieved within an 18-month timeframe. For additional information on the MPS, please contact Allison Hudson at ahudson2@stu.edu.

A graduate Open House will be held on campus September 23, 6:00 to 8:00 PM, covering all St. Thomas Schools. Details on other innovative academic programs will be provided, among them the Masters in Divinity, Justice Administration, Sports Administration, Health Care Management, General Guidance and Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, Family and Marriage Counseling and the new MBA Program created by veteran US economist Dean Jose Antonio (Tony) Villamil. There is no need to reserve space and inquiries or applications can be taken via www.stu.edu
